Ready for take-off!

The project comprised the design and construction of the new Civil Aviation Department (CAD) headquarters, located at the south-eastern part of the Airport Island and with a total construction floor area of approximately 64,500 sqm.
The new CAD headquarters is a critical facility housing the Air Traffic Control Centre which includes the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department, the Rescue Coordination Centre, Aeronautical Information Centre, and Aeronautical Network Centre. Other associated facilities include examination & training facilities, offices, multi-purpose auditorium, conference rooms and an education path.
BYME was appointed as the specialist contractor for the design, supply, installation and T&C of all MEP services excluding MVAC.
Environmental performance

In addition to energy efficient building services systems, this BEAM Plus Platinum-certified facility required the installation of many innovative “green” products and systems such as axial type wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, solar powered lights, light pipes, fibre optic solar tracking system and a state-of-the-art building energy management system.
